| Diane Eickhoff speaks at the Watkins Museum, Lawrence, Kansas, during the annual "Civil War on the Western Frontier" symposium, August 7, 2010. |
If you are unfamiliar with the remarkable story of Clarina Nichols, we invite you to read, watch, and listen:
❖ READ … the first chapter of the biography Revolutionary Heart, now in its second printing.
❖ WATCH … author Diane Eickhoff on C-SPAN2’s “BookTV.”
❖ LISTEN … to this extraordinary program featuring the words of Clarina Nichols as brought to life by her biographer.
Congratulations Nate!
Kansas history teacher Nathan McAlister was an early adopter of Revolutionary Heart, using it to teach the state's territorial period to his students at Royal Valley Middle School. Nate and Diane even co-presented a seminar at the National Council of History Educators convention in 2008.
So we are honored and thrilled to announce that Nate has been named the National History Teacher of the Year by the Gilder Lehrman Institute. Former U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor said at the award ceremony, “Nathan McAlister is a history teacher who manages to bring the role of citizens to the forefront and engages his students both with the historical event and also how they can be part of bringing history alive today.”
We couldn't agree more!
Revolutionary Heart is ready to teach!
Now in its second printing, Revolutionary Heart has been embraced by readers and critics across the country as ‘the fascinating life story’ and ‘an important addition to American and women’s history.’ Not to mention ‘so artfully done.’ Read more or browse the table of contents. Lawrence High School students read Revolutionary Heart as part of the “Read Across Lawrence” program. (They also invited “Mrs. Nichols” to speak, as you can see.) The response was great! Now, your class can have the same experience using our Teacher’s Guide and attractively-priced class set.
